Unix timestamp

  1. It’s the number of seconds that have elapsed since 00:00:00 UTC on Thursday, 1 January 1970 (the Unix Epoch).
  2. Does not count leap seconds (Leap second: An extra second inserted into UTC time to keep atomic clocks in sync with Earth’s slightly irregular rotation.)
  3. Widely used in programming, databases, APIs, and file systems.

  4. Example

    1762698557 = Thursday, 24 October 2024 at 13:09:17 UTC

    Exactly 55 years, 9 months, and 23 days after the Unix Epoch began.
